Why this exists

Buying physical gold in the UK is unusual among consumer purchases: the product is completely fungible. A one-ounce Britannia from one dealer is molecularly identical to a one-ounce Britannia from another. There is no quality difference to weigh, no brand preference to indulge. The only thing that varies is what you pay.

And yet comparing what you pay is genuinely hard. The advertised price is rarely the price. Delivery is charged per order, not per coin, so it changes with quantity. Card surcharges appear at checkout. Price breaks kick in at thresholds that differ by dealer. Two dealers six pounds apart on the headline figure can be twenty pounds apart on the total.

GoldSorted does that arithmetic. That is the whole product.

What we do

• Collect prices from established UK bullion dealers on a schedule.
• Add delivery, payment surcharges and any other mandatory fee for your quantity.
• Compare the result against the intrinsic gold value at the current spot price.
• Show you when each price was last checked, and exclude ones too old to trust.
• Say plainly when we could not verify a fee, rather than guessing.

What we deliberately do not do

• We do not sell bullion. We hold no stock, take no payment and never touch your money. You buy from the dealer, on the dealer’s site.
• We do not give advice. We are not regulated and not qualified to tell you whether to buy gold, how much, or when.
• We do not forecast the gold price. Nobody can, and a comparison site that pretends otherwise is selling something.
• We do not sell ranking. No dealer can pay for a higher position.

How we stay independent

The commercial model is affiliate commission from some dealers. That creates an obvious conflict, so it is worth being specific about how it is contained.

Ranking is computed purely from cost. Commission is not an input to any published figure — not to the ordering, not to the badges, not to the Deal Score. The pricing engine does not even have access to affiliate data: it lives in a separate module that the ranking code does not import, and there is an automated test that fails if the ordering ever changes based on affiliate status.

Every dealer profile states whether we have a relationship with that dealer, including when we do not. You can read the full affiliate disclosure or the methodology behind every calculation.

Current status

This is an early-stage product. Coverage is partial — we do not track every UK dealer or every product, so “cheapest” means cheapest among the offers we hold. We are honest about that on every page rather than implying completeness we do not have.
